The development of Technology Based Standards for management of VOC emissions 

 

EHS assisted the private sector with the development of position papers that provided industry’s input to the regulators’ development of Technology Based Standards for VOC emissions.  This input was based on comprehensive independent analysis of available technologies and included recommendations from the industry on the preferred policy for selection of the appropriate Technology Based Standard.

 

EHS developed for Environment Canada 5 Canadian Council of Ministers of the Environment (CCME) Standards and a Canadian Environmental Protection Act (CEPA) Guideline for VOC emissions. 

 

These instruments, which provide a basis for the development of provincial regulations, include:

 

 

  

 

 

 

EHS developed for the Ontario Ministry of the Environment a number of detailed reports that form the basis for regulatory standards for VOC emissions from several industry sectors in Ontario. EHS carried out technical and economic assessments of numerous technologies and held extensive consultations with industry.  The industry sectors included:

 

  • Metal Parts and Products, including automotive parts, coil,  
  • Foam Products, including polyurethane, polystyrene and polyolefins; and
  • Printing, including Printing on plastic packaging films and Publication printing.
