The development and evaluation of Alternate (Technology Based) Air Standards within the context of Ontario Reg. 419

On November 30, 2005, the MOE introduced a new comprehensive regulatory framework, O.Reg.419/05: Air Pollution - Local Air Quality, that replaced the old Regulation 346. A helpful overview of the regulation is provided in http://www.cleanair.hamilton.ca/downloads/2006Presentation s/CathyGrant.pdf.

EHS has been working for 3 years with the Ontario Ministry of the Environment(MOE) and with the private sector (Industry Trade Associations) on Alternative Air Standards and Technology Benchmarking. During this time, EHS has produced:

A Profile of Ontario Foundries, prepared for the MOE (in collaboration with O2E Inc.);

Foundry Sector Technology Benchmarking Report, prepared for the Canadian Foundry Association (in collaboration with O2E Inc.);

Confidential Reports on the evaluation of individual facilities’ applications to the MOE for an Alternative Air Standard under O.Reg. 419/05. These reports included expert engineering advice on various technologies that had been considered by the facilities and included expert opinions from specialist engineers from Canada and USA.
